Born and raised in Canada, Ian completed his undergraduate education in Canada and, in 1981, obtained his law degree from Southwestern University School of Law, in Los Angeles, California, graduating on the Dean’s List and with the Bureau Of National Affairs, Inc. Award. While in law school, Ian served as President of the Los Angeles Student Trial Lawyers’ Association. Ian was admitted to practice law in California in 1981, in Colorado in 1982, and in Maine in 1990. An effective trial lawyer with a practice that has focused on civil litigation, personal injury, divorce, family and criminal law, Ian has also served, by appointment, as a mediator, arbitrator, Guardian ad litem and medical malpractice screening panel member. The father of three children, Ian has been involved in a variety of community and environmental organizations, including service as an officer of various parent/teacher organizations and as a board member, vice-president and president of a Maine corporation providing coastal island transportation services.
