Robert M.A Nadeau - Attorney
Robert M.A. Nadeau: Bob was born in Sanford, Maine in 1955. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Relations (Political Science, Sociology, and Economics) from The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, in 1977, and his Juris Doctor degree in 1980 from the Delaware Law School of Widener University, Wilmington, Delaware. After a short stint as a high school teacher in Ludlow, Massachusetts, Bob served as a Captain in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps from 1981 to 1985, much of that time as a specially appointed prosecutor for the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Kansas, and as a command legal advisor and government contracts attorney. He worked as a trial attorney and general practitioner in Springfield, Massachusetts from 1985 to 1993, serving also from 1985 to 1987 as a criminal prosecutor for the towns of Wilbraham and Hampden, Massachusetts, and from 1988 to 1990 as the lead criminal prosecutor and assistant solicitor for the City of Chicopee, Massachusetts.
Bob left a successful practice in Massachusetts in 1993 to return to Maine, where he has been engaged in a full service law practice. In November 1996, he unseated the long-time incumbent York County Judge of Probate in a landslide election. He has served in that part-time capacity at the York County Courthouse in Alfred, Maine, since January 1997. In 2004 he won re-election to his third term after overwhelmingly defeating five other York County lawyers seeking the position in the primary and general elections.
An experienced trial attorney and real estate attorney, Bob has achieved successful trial results for the firm’s clients in a variety of areas of law. He proved in protracted, complex litigation that a local family owns a major section of popular Wells Beach, Maine. Through the use of complex forensic evidence, he obtained a jury acquittal of a man charged with arson who was seen leaving a vacant, burning basement. He has also obtained many favorable judgments for persons involved in real estate and business disputes, and for consumers victimized by the unfair practices of certain businesses and in product liability disputes.
Similarly, Bob has earned substantial settlements for victims of motor vehicle and other personal injury accidents and disputes of many types.
Bob has also represented and obtained favorable results for roughly 2,000 satisfied divorce clients, as well as many of the firm’s large number of business, corporate and limited liability company clients and sole proprietors.
Bob has served as an agent for Lawyers Title Insurance Company as an adjunct to the firm’s real estate practice. He presently obtains title insurance coverage for the firm’s real estate clients through Stewart Title Insurance Company.
Bob is perennially listed in Who’s Who Among American Lawyers. He concentrates his practice in complex civil and personal injury litigation, and in estate, commercial and divorce law, while also spending a substantial amount of his time providing advice, guidance and assistance to the remaining attorneys and staff at Nadeau & Associates. Because of his great depth of experience and knowledge in almost every area of legal practice, Bob also provides services as an arbitrator and as an early neutral evaluator under the Maine Court system’s Alternative Dispute Resolution program, when requested by other area lawyers.
Bob is a member of the Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts Bar Associations, the bars of the U.S. Court of Appeals, U.S. Court of Military Review and the U.S. Court of Military Appeals, the Maine Trial Lawyers Association and the York County Bar Association. He is also listed as a contributor to two books written by Wilbur M. Yegge, Ph.D., entitled A Basic Guide to Buying and Selling A Company (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1996) and A Basic Guide to Valuing A Company (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1996), and has authored Maine Probate Courts: The Other Family Law, published in the Maine Bar Journal, Vol. 18 (Winter 2003).
Bob represents clients in all state and federal courts and agencies in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
